(A monologue
A diatribe)

I’m just –
I’m just gonna bang it out.
I’m just gonna dip into that article for inspiration.
I’m just gonna scroll and comment because that’s my ramp up to the writing.
I’m just gonna put a little music on, just gonna check my email, just gonna remember I forgot to call that friend who is going through that thing and needs me and, you know, I’m just gonna send that one text, I’m just gonna settle my mind.
Ring notification: there is motion at my Front Door.
Bills bills bills bills bills
This is not going to pay the bills.
I’m not delusional.
This is not going to pay the bills.
I’m just gonna –
Am I?
The writing will come.
The writing will come.
The writing will come.
Writing – why won’t you fucking come? Am I hungry?
I’m just gonna – maybe a snack? I’m just gonna -
I’m not fucking hungry.
I’m everything but hungry.
I’m empty
The devoid-of empty (Continued)
Not the ready-to-be-filled empty
The oh-shit-here-comes-the-silence-empty
The oh-fuck-I-know-I-need-to-be-in-the-silence-empty
The there-is-nothing-more-fear-inspiring-that-the-prospect-of-silence silence Where I am swallowed by the emptiness
Where I am pinned to the waiting
Until a whisper floats into my empty:
“listen”
The characters are calling
I’m just gonna let myself hear them.
