What kind of reader were you as a child? What was the first book that made a strong impression on you?
As a child, I mostly read stories based in real life, lots of historical fiction like Number the Stars, My Brother Sam is Dead, The Witch of Blackbird Pond. But also loved some thrill like Holes, My Side of the Mountain, The Westing Game. But the only book that I love so much that I reread as an adult is The Phantom Tollbooth.

What do you love about being able to work around books every day?
I love that books that open people’s minds to new perspectives and information, and that I get to have a small part in that. Matching a reader with a new book is fulfilling.

A great thing about living in Waterbury…
We have a high percentage of women-owned businesses that are highly collaborative. A rising tide lifts all boats.

What makes you happy? What are you grateful for?
Living in Vermont with long winters, it makes me so happy to see the first buds on the trees in springtime and the first sprouts of crocuses and daffodils in the yard. Everything is coming to life again! I am grateful for the freedom to read what I choose and sell what books I choose to.

Tell us about some of your favorite books and writers of all time.
I read mostly non-fiction, so my favorite authors are A. J. Jacobs, Mary Roach, Bill Bryson, Erik Larson, Candice Millard. I wait with bated breath for their new books.

As you reflect on your year of reading, what books have you recently enjoyed? And what books are you looking forward to in 2025?
The last few books I’ve really enjoyed include The Warm Hands of Ghosts by Katherine Arden; A Mother Always Knows by Sarah Strohmeyer; Zero Stars, Do Not Recommend by MJ Wassmer, We Will Be Jaguars by Nemonte Nenquimo, Women Without Kids by Ruby Warrington, and Sir Patrick Stewart’s memoir, Making It So. Right now my TBR pile includes The Apple by Sally Coulthard, Florenzer by Phil Melanson, Rope by Tim Queeney, and Erased by Anna Malaika Tubbs…So many great books coming out this year!
